    Applied Insight (AI) is seeking a Cyber Security Specialist / Technical Writer in New York, New York.


    • Technical writing with emphasis on legal language experience, formal policy development, and technical procedures
    • Ability to provide training to other Second Circuit Court system administrators, IT managers, and help desk staff
    • Ability to act as a security advocate interfacing with court unit heads, other executive roles, and local information security officers
    • End User training: Ability to lead training classes, for both individuals and groups of individuals with limited technical skillsets. Including topics such as security while traveling, remote access, password management, insider threat, email safety, phone and email phishing, mobile device safety, and information security
    • Ability to collaborate and review System Security Plans (SSPs), Security Assessment Reports (SARs), and documents with System Owners, Project Teams, and other applicable Stakeholders
    • Experience creating Incident Response Plans, Contingency Plans, along with POA&Ms
    • Provides technical support in the areas of vulnerability assessment, risk assessment, network security, product evaluation, and security implementation
    • Responsible for designing and implementing solutions for protecting the confidentiality, integrity and availability of sensitive information
    • Provides technical evaluations of customer systems and assists with making security improvements
    • Participates in design of information system contingency plans that maintain appropriate levels of protection and meet time requirements for minimizing operations impact to customer organization
    • Conducts security product evaluations, and recommends products, technologies and upgrades to improve the customer’s security posture
    • Conducts testing and audit log reviews to evaluate the effectiveness of current security measures


    • U.S. Citizenship required
    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Eight (8) years of general cyber security experience. Experience must include familiarity with applicable NIST information security documentation; i.e., Special Publication 800 series. Experience must have occurred within the past three (3) years.
    • Six (6) years of specialized experience in National Institute of Standards (NIST) IT Security standards. Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP) is preferred. Three (3) years of this functional experience must have included securing and evaluating information management systems, security design; development, test and evaluation tasks and duties specified in SOW and must have occurred in the last five (5) years.
    • Combined five (5) years working experience in the disciplines of: Web security server vulnerability assessments, Network auditing, Network traffic/packet analysis, Hands-on work experience with web server administration (Apache, IIS)
    • Must have hands-on work experience with Splunk, Nessus, and KACE
    • Familiarity with Cisco networking, Active Directory, Palo Alto Firewalls, Websense, AirWatch, VMWare VDI and Customizing windows 10 environments is a plus.
    • Experience with NIST Data Classification and Data Governance guidelines is a plus.
    • Excellent verbal communication skills
    • Ability to liaison between national Administrative Office and local IT staff or projects.
    • Outstanding written skills for preparing reports and briefings
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills


    • CEH, CISSP, Security+, Project+, IAPM (or other project management experience)
